OK...it is still a bazillion degrees here and our hotel has no AC. After walking about 10 miles around the Old City yesterday we came back to a stiffling room. I called the desk and asked for a fan...Nope. So off I went to the Arab market. I was trying to wheel and deal with a few guys, fully aware the Arabs seem to like blondes in tank tops...even old ones (me, not the tank top)..ha ha (I think the heat has fried their brains??) The lowest price I could find was $25 (we would have paid $100 at that point!) and got the bright idea to sell it back to the guy on Sat for 1/2 price...when we move to the Sheraton. He laughed at the idea but went for it. He gets back a practically new fan....we keep cool for the 2 nights we are here! What a deal! Have also used my expert negotiating skills on souvenir buying. I just need to buy another suitcase to get all our stuff home. I've got Christmas and birthdays covered for a couple years! The range of items to buy is just unbelievable...with really good prices...if you "stick to your guns" (as my Dad would say!)
So we finished most of our shopping today...good thing as we have gotten lost in the Old City about 1000 times....it is almost impossible to get your bearings. We feel like rats in a maze. Even the "smartest" of the two of us (guess who) got confused!!
Also, today at noon there was a stampdee of all the Muslims to the "main" Mosque for Prayers. We almost got trampled trying to get back to the hotel. Today is their Holy Day so I guess it is like our Sunday. And tomorrow is the Jewish Sabbath which is Saturday, but I guess is like our Sunday but is also like the Muslim's Friday. Uhhhh.....I think I am still confused!
We are off to a tour of the Mount of Olives for 3 hours. Will post pix tonite. Glad so many of you are enjoying the Blog. Makes it easy for us cuz we don't have to write emails to everyone, everyday. Many have said you haven't become a "follower"...and can't figure out how to leave comments on the Blog...no worries! We both appreciate your individual emails. And yes, Joan, I agree, it is kinda obvious who writes which one, even though Terry's name is at the bottom of each. As I said...she is the brains of the operation...I am the comedian....oh, and best bargainer... and have best tan (so says TLL) ;o))

ReplyDeleteThe Sheraton in nowhere near the Muslim quarter , and thus the call to the faithful. I would have a hard time being faithful at 3 am myself
