Sunday

Hi all,
Today we decided to do nothing...or almost nothing. Terry hung out by the pool...I hung out in the pool. Still hot but a nice breeze blowing on this side of the city. Later this afternoon we went to one of the promenades/shopping areas here in the "New" City which was anticlimatic after the excitement and energy of the "Old" City. We are less than a mile from the Old City but it is worlds apart...so modern and "civilized" on this "side". We then walked to the famous King David Hotel for a drink on their patio...which overlooks the Old City. Many, many famous people have stayed there and their signatures/autographs are written on the floor tiles.....i.e. Nelson Mandella, Winston Churchill, Anwar Sadat, King Hussein, Al Gore, Condoleeza Rice, and lots of celebreties i.e. Elizabeth Taylor. I was surprised they didn't ask us to write on the floor too!! ha ha.
Being the thrifty girls we are (aka, cheapskates) we went to a big grocery store and bought some more food. The food at the hotel is just TOO expensive....$5.00 for a Diet Coke...$20 for a sandwich. We have a frig in our room so can keep all our goodies. We found some amazing breads, cheeses, grilled veggies and a wonderful Persian mellon we are going to have for dinner on our patio tonite. Then it is off to bed early as we tomorrow it is "show-time". We are both feeling a bit homesick today but know we are on the "down-hill" slide...AND both of us are very much looking forward to our teaching opportunity here as being the highlight of our trip.

  1. This looks like a definite upgrade from the first place! Everything is good apparently but the prices! Yikes! I would be out shopping too.
