"Hotel from hell" run by the Arabic Addam's family

We were very happy to leave Jordan this a.m. to return to Israel although we have had enough of our 3 a.m. risings for a while. We had to be at the airport quite early as is required. We parted ways with Dr Linver at Ben Gurion and got a cab to take us to our hotel in Jerusalem. That's when the real adventure started. We should have had a clue when the driver had no idea where our hotel was or didn't recall having even heard of it. It had great reviews on Booking.com which we believed. Our driver stopped and asked no less than 3 maybe 4 people if they knew where the hotel was. I found the street in my Jerusalem tour guide book and showed him where it was. To say this place is sketchy is being extremely generous. We are in the Arab quarter which is fine with us, located on the East side of Jerusalem. We are supposed to have a view of the Mount of Olives. I think a glimpse would be more accurate. We were met in the lobby by Waleed who took an immediately liking to Miss Louise. He kept repeating her name (not mine!) and smiling. I kid you not that he was patting her head and hair & rubbing her arm. Adoration crossed my mind. After disengaging Walled from Louise, we asked if someone could check us in even though we were quite early. After several 5 minutes waits Yousef arrived at the recpetion desk and checked us in. We were taken up an antique lift to the 4th floor. The room we were shown, hereafter will be known as room number one. Old, faded, tired, not even making the effort to be appealing. We were dismayed to say the least, thinking this was not the place we read about. After we were left alone, we saw an open door down the hall that was a much better room. It had a back door and very small patio and faced a different direction. We asked if we could move to that room and were told yes. Clue #2. this room number is 411 - as in need assistance. We got extra pillows, a fan and decided that needed to head down to the Old City. Yousef called cab for us and we set off on our next adventures which were much more satisfying. Make sure to check out the photos to truly appreciate our lodgings. There is a Mosque very close by and we were startled out of our afternoon rest by the call to prayer. We assume tomorrow it will occur 5 times. I don't think we'll be staying in the room to hear it. Family and friends don't worry that we are not safe, because we are. We are just stuck in some bizarre, funky time warp of a hotel.
