Tour of Old City

Today we walked and walked and walked with a private guide that took just the 2 of us throughout the Old City.We passed through each of the Old City's Quarters:Jewish, Armenian, Christian and Muslim. We visited most of the big churches; Mary Magdalene, Holy Sepulchre, St. Peter's church, The church of the Dormition, the Tombs of Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus. Incredibly beautiful. It was another really hot day in Jerusalem, nearing 100 degrees and we were walking from about 11:45until 2:30ish in the heat of the day. Feet are tired and knees did many, many steps and uphill inclines. We had every intention of going to a concert this evening as part of a month long international musical consortium but couldn't find the building where it was to be held. Probably because all of the buildings carried only Hebrew names. When our efforts proved fruitless, we decided to have dinner at a restaurant that we had scoped out earlier. Great Arabic food. Louise had lamb kabobs & I had breast of chicken. We shared sides of hummus, baba ghanoush, yougurt tomato sauce and of course pita bread...we realized it was our first non-vegetarian meal we have had since we arrived almost a week ago.
We came home and had wine of on the roof deck watching the sunset, hearing the evening call to prayer. Because we were high above the city you could hear one mosque after another starting the call, each echoing the other, reverberating.
Showers, bed, hopefully decent sleep are in order....except for the "wake up call" at 3am. Just part of the experience I guess.
